Documentation · AgentsBring your own agent.
Use an MCP-capable agent and model subscription you already pay for. NYTSHIFT supplies governed tools, typed evidence and durable scopes; it never resells the model, collects provider credentials or treats a model brand as authority.
Hosted customer keys and OAuth connections use your NYTSHIFT sign-in and explicit permissions. Your agent never receives a wallet signer or private venue key. Eligible live actions remain requests for your individual approval; the agent cannot sign, send, retry or move funds. Availability is shown by the current server configuration.
Quick startAsk your own AI about the markets, with NYTSHIFT data
Connect Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP agent and it can read what you see in NYTSHIFT and help when something is confusing: why funding is high, what a screen tier means, how big a coin really is. It starts with market data only. You decide whether it may also read your accounts or paper trade, and you can test, rotate, pause or remove it at any time in Agents.
Sign in, no key needed.Claude (claude.ai and the desktop app)
- Open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Name it NYTSHIFT and paste the server URL https://nytshift.xyz/api/agent/mcp. Leave Advanced settings empty, then choose Add and Connect.
- Sign in to NYTSHIFT in the window that opens and choose what Claude may read. Market data only is the safe default.
- In a chat, switch NYTSHIFT on from the + menu and ask a question.
Sign in, no key needed. Needs Developer mode, which your plan or workspace admin controls.ChatGPT
- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
- Choose Create. Name: NYTSHIFT. MCP server URL: https://nytshift.xyz/api/agent/mcp. Authentication: OAuth. Confirm you trust it and create it.
- Sign in to NYTSHIFT in the window that opens and choose what ChatGPT may read.
- In a new chat, add NYTSHIFT from the + menu and ask a question.
Use a key from the Agents tab.Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Hermes and other agents
- In NYTSHIFT open Agents, pick your agent, tick what it may do and choose Create key. The key is shown once.
- Claude Code, one command: claude mcp add --transport http nytshift https://nytshift.xyz/api/agent/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_NYTSHIFT_KEY"
- Codex, Cursor and Hermes: the Agents tab shows the exact file and lines to paste, with your key filled in.
- Choose Test connection next to the new key. It makes the same first calls your agent will and shows each result.
| Permission | Default | What your agent can read or do |
|---|
| Markets | Always on | Prices, 24h change and volume, funding, open interest and its change, the market screen with tiers A/B/C and tradability scores, how the screen works, CoinMarketCap facts (market cap, supply, bands), candles and order books. |
|---|
| My accounts | Off until you tick it and pick accounts | Balances, positions, open orders, recent fills and saved Journal records for the accounts you pick. Only your own connected accounts, read through your own connection. |
|---|
| Paper trading | Off until you tick it | Simulated orders on a separate agent PAPER account that fill against the live order book. Its results show on the Agents tab. Never real money. |
|---|
| Live trading with my approval | Off until you tick it, where offered | The agent can only ask. You see each request in NYTSHIFT and nothing is sent unless you approve it with your own confirmation. |

Limits
- 120 calls a minute for each key, and 240 a minute for all of your keys together.
- 30 candle or order-book reads a minute for all of your keys, because those can reach the exchange. Use the market list or the screen for many markets at once.
- An agent over a limit is told how many seconds to wait, and answers to a working key carry RateLimit headers so an agent can pace itself.
- Up to five active keys or sign-ins. A key lasts 7, 30 or 90 days.
Test, rotate and remove
- Test connection sits next to a new key, and under Connected agents you can test a saved key. It checks the key, the tools, the permissions and one live price.
- Rotate key gives the same agent a new key with the same permissions and lifetime. The old key stops at once. ChatGPT and Claude sign-ins renew themselves every hour and are removed instead.
- Remove ends a key or sign-in on its next call. Pause all agents stops every tool call until you resume.
If something does not work
- Key not accepted (401). The key is wrong, was removed or rotated, or has expired. Create or rotate a key in Agents and paste the new one.
- Paused. All agents are paused on the Agents tab. Resume them there.
- Too many calls (429). Wait the number of seconds the answer gives. Ask broad questions with the market list or the screen instead of reading markets one by one.
- Needs Agent Pro. Market data stays free. If the site has switched to Agent Pro, reading accounts, paper trading and live requests need it.
- No Developer mode in ChatGPT. Your ChatGPT plan or workspace does not offer custom connectors. Use Claude or a key-based agent instead.
Hosted connectionConnect your agent in five steps
- Open Agents and sign in. The Agents tab says whether agent connections are switched on for this site and for your account.
- Choose your client and permissions. Use ChatGPT or Claude through the hosted sign-in connection, or a scoped customer key for Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Hermes and other supported MCP clients. Select the exact accounts and tools you want to share.
- Approve the connection. OAuth uses your current NYTSHIFT sign-in and an explicit consent screen. A customer key is shown once and stored only as a hash; choose its 7, 30 or 90 day lifetime. Neither flow needs an operator session.
- Follow your client's setup. Agents prints the current instructions for your client. Hosted MCP uses /api/agent/mcp on this site. Pasted keys are sent in the authorization header; OAuth credentials stay within the supported client's sign-in flow.
- Watch, pause, remove. Connected agents show their app name and version, last seen and calls in the last 24 hours. Pause all agents with one switch or remove a key; both take effect on the next call.
What a connected agent can use:
- Markets. Available prices, volume, native funding, open interest, Radar, candles and order books retain their venue and original source clocks. Unsupported or stale evidence stays unknown.
- My accounts (only if you share them). Share exact Hyperliquid accounts or verified native account UUIDs for Lighter Core, Lighter on Robinhood Chain and Arcus. accounts:read covers those selected accounts, not every wallet or account. Native balances, positions, orders and precision come from checked native reads; missing USD values, fees or protection remain unknown.
- Playbooks. Grant private research and library access separately. An agent can read the guide, validate rules, backtest an exact revision and save it. Saving or backtesting never starts a run. Server PAPER runs require the separate run-paper grant, paper:trade and current configured availability.
- PAPER trading. Explicitly initialize simulated capital, then place simulated orders through the existing PAPER engine. Agent PAPER fills and retained history appear in Trade and Journal. Reset starts a new account generation and preserves archived evidence.
- Journal. accounts:read includes saved Journal records and private notes within the shared account scope. Native Journal tools preserve physical account identity, actual fill IDs, units and bounded coverage; incomplete costs never become a complete net result or an invented R multiple. Unsaved browser observations stay local.
- Guardian. Separate owner-granted read/write access lets the agent review or manage alert rules through alert_list, alert_create and alert_delete. Guardian cannot trade. Account alerts use current observations while the app is open; configured market alerts can run on the server.
- Market Lab theses. Separate private thesis read/write grants allow thesis_create, thesis_list and thesis_get. Saved plans retain their author and revision; a thesis does not authorize an order.
Granted tools can save private research, notes, theses and alert rules, or change simulated PAPER money. They do not create their own access or change your sign-in. Shared account records and saved notes are sent to the AI provider behind your client when it reads them; choose the account UUIDs and grants accordingly.
Live actions with your approval. Where configured and supported by the selected venue, orders:request allows a typed order, position or order-control request within the limits you approved. The pending request shows the native operation, account, terms and reason in NYTSHIFT. Nothing is sent until you approve that individual request; unanswered requests expire and uncertain outcomes are reconciled rather than automatically retried. An explicitly owner-armed Playbook can file requests after its exact backtest and PAPER evidence are checked. It never approves or executes them.
Self-hosted local bridgeSeven steps, in order
- Local build. Clone the repository, run corepack enable, pnpm install and pnpm dev, then open the terminal on http://localhost:3000. EXECUTION_MODE=disabled and ALLOW_MAINNET=false stay as shipped.
- Operator session on loopback. Sign in to the operator control plane from the same machine. Operator sessions are loopback-only; a public deployment never grants one.
- Create an MCP connection. In Agents, choose a capability mode (research, propose or paper), the tool scopes, the allowed symbols, any exact venue/account pairs, quotas and a maximum 24-hour expiry. The one-time client secret is shown once and kept only as a digest.
- Copy the client configuration. Paste the generated stdio or loopback HTTP configuration into your MCP client. No model-provider key is entered anywhere in NYTSHIFT.
- Paper credential. A paper-mode connection carries an immutable paper policy. Its paper tools simulate against fresh live books and never reach a venue.
- Strategy library. With a local PAPER connection active in the page, Strategy Studio can save the current draft to the owner-scoped server library. Otherwise drafts stay browser-local.
- Promotion review. Nothing an agent produces becomes a venue order by itself. A proposal enters human review; the exchange-native operator path needs the operator session, current account and venue evidence, and one explicit confirmation per order.
Capability modesHosted capabilities and separate local modes
| Mode | Scope | Capital authority |
|---|
| Hosted customer read/research | Current scopes, exact shared account UUIDs and separate private research grants | No live execution |
|---|
| Hosted PAPER | paper:trade plus separate run-paper permission for server Playbooks | Simulation only |
|---|
| Hosted owner-approved requests | orders:request, an exact shared account and current limits | Each request needs the owner's individual approval |
|---|
| Research | Market and consented account/risk reads | None |
|---|
| Propose | Research plus advisory proposal lifecycle | None; operator approval mandatory |
|---|
| Paper | Research/activity plus immutable paper policy | Simulation only |
|---|
| Testnet policy | Separate DPoP-bound Hyperliquid policy | One signer attempt per request ID |
|---|
| Exchange-native mainnet operator | Existing operator session, current venue/account evidence and explicit confirmation | One reviewed attempt; never autonomous delegation |
|---|
No mode is inferred from a model brand, subscription tier, prompt or client declaration. NYTSHIFT derives it from durable server policy on every call, and authorization is rebuilt from durable state on every request.
BoundariesWhat the platform refuses
- MCP is not a signer proxy. A trading request is a pending proposal, not a direct venue submit or cancel. Research and PAPER tools cannot sign, send, transfer or withdraw real funds.
- Public addresses still require an explicit account grant, because sending account context to an external model is a privacy boundary.
- Loopback HTTP and stdio belong to the separate legacy local bridge and its operator setup. Hosted customer MCP and supported OAuth sign-in use customer permissions, current account ownership and server availability; local operator authority is not a prerequisite or a customer grant.
- NYTSHIFT never asks for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or other model-provider API keys.
- Plan or payment state cannot grant execution authority.
